The biggest advantage of pipe clamps is the ability to change the length, either by swapping the heads to a longer pipe or using pipe couplers to add sections. They are relatively inexpensive especially compared to good bar clamps and can apply a good deal of clamping force, usually more than needed but we all have that moment when graunching is applicable. They aren't perfect but have a place in the shop. I have a couple dozen or so and at one time were the only decent clamp I could afford. Now I have almost as many of the older style Bessey K-Body clamps however when I need lots of longer clamps especially over 5' the pipes are the go to. Here 3/4 pipe is still easy to find and not expensive.

There are clamp heads you can put on a bit of wood for those times you need a really long clamp.
I did some sums at the time and decided that pipe clamps were just not worth it. I have a mixed bag of old and newer sash clamps but nothing long enough for a queen bed. I only needed 2 and have not required anything really long since. These heads cost me about 10 quid a clamp and I think do a better job. 006.JPG001.JPG

I have a few of those, which i use with 2x1 box steel 3mm thick..... you can get 5 and 7.5m lengths easily 😉

Hi,

I've just received 4 Pony Jorgensen clamps 3/4" but the head threads are NPT... I've purchased by mistake some galvanised pipes (from Specialists in industrial style from industrial pipes) but with the British standard (BSP) and obviously I can't screw the clamp head to the pipe!

I can't find any supplier in the UK which can thread the ends with NPT. What's my alternative? ;-)
Try a local pipework company to see if they can thread it for you. Some will have NPT dies.
