pen like tool

Good Morning
I have just bought a Pyrrography set. There is a piece of kit inside i have no clue whet it does or what its for
This is about 5in long like a pen shape on the top there is a spring loaded part. Have opened the whole thing up but don't seem to be getting the jist of what its for
any help welcome
