In answer to a previous query about the Mini Gripper chuck from Craft Supplies, I stated that I used it to make oval bowls. So here are a couple, just to show you what this super little chuck will cope with.

Laburnum from a 4' long trunk of a neighbour's tree, stored upright for 6 or 7 years under the carport & dried using the carrier bag method ie. place a plastic carrier bag over each end. For the first month, remove, turn the carrier bags inside out & replace, daily. For the next three months, weekly. Then, whenever I remembered. I also upended the log on each change.
You will see that the bowl on the left is lobsided & thinner at one end. That's because I didn't level the top of the blank when I drilled the mounting hole for the Chuck. Then whilst hollowing with the Rolly Munro tool, took too large a bite due to a lapse in concentration.
Despite it's faults everyone who's seen it says they like its shape better. Seems that any future ones may have to be done on the tilt.
Regards
