Purchased some fitted single sheets bed linen, and they do not fit although described as single.
Order placed with Amazon and supplied by Linens ltd. who will not send me a returns free paid label and state delivery charges are my responsibility . (royal mail £15, goods worth £35. ) £1,95 was charged for delivery to my address in the first instance.

I thought all on line business the seller was responsible for charges for any reason within 14 days.

Is there a cast iron situation on this sort of thing?

If you change your mind about the purchase, then it depends on the stated terms and conditions when you purchased. It is the sellers responsibility unless they state that it is yours to return them. Either way, they must refund the full price that you paid, including postage to you.If they are faulty, then this may change things. There will be legislation that covers it, but I cant remember what- I suspect it will be on your side. You need to be clear why you are returning them though- distance selling regs or faulty. Amazons policy may change if they are the latter- I am sure that on the odd occassion we have ordered something and it has arrived damaged, they have covered the postage back to them.

That's the problem for me. The terms stated by Linen ltd are that charges are my responsibility on the sales contract, but if items are not accurately described, called single size they must bear responsibility?

How come they can deliver for £1.95 and royal mail want £15?, surely their carrier can charge the same to collect and return?

http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/cgi- ... 3-1011.txt doesnt quite cover it, but you could ring TS to check. I believe that if you use the sale of goods act (rather than distance selling regulations), because the goods were not as described, then you should be refunded the full purchase price, and any losses incurred- ie return postage. Personally, I would push for them to collect from you, so you are not another 15 quid out of pocket whilst they muck around.

There is a lot of rubbish out there online, and you will find many conflicting stories.

If the goods were not as described then the retailer is liable for all charges in P&P charges. I think you need to check whether the sheets you bought had any measurements in the description and if this is the case do they match what you have been sent. If no measurements and just described a single then search for other reputable retailers, e.g. M&S or John Lewis to see what their single sheet sizes are. Use this to argue that what's been supplied as not fit for purpose.

Go to the Which consumer site for more detailed advice. http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/ ... goods-act/

When you complain or reject the goods be very specific about the wording you use and make sure that you quote the Sale of Goods act. This seems to make retailers act more responsibly rather than try to fob you off.

I think I am in trouble, I did the search at Amazon for Single sheets and assumed that they would naturally fit the bed. The heading is quoted as single sheets but in the blurb there is a size mentioned 190cm x90cm.

However they are 10cm short of our requirements it appears all single beds are not the same!

... all as Andy and others say above plus if you do have to send them back at your cost initially DON'T us RM - try a carrier who will be much cheaper. http://www.parcel2go.com/

Thanks RogerP, return charge down to £4.45 with collection(+vat), that's not so bad, what a difference tho. using parcel 2 go link you sent me.

Unfortunately UK and European mattress sizes differ:

"If you have a quick peruse through this blog, you will notice that buying a mattress is not a simple process and there are many important factors to consider. So without further ado, I present to you with a guide to mattress measurements – from single to king size mattresses – so at least you can be certain of one thing: what size mattress you want."

I got Linen Ltd the suppliers for Amazon to arrange collection but they are charging me £7.95;
I am going to complain to visa Barclaycard because the invoice and advert stated single size and it did not fit, so because I used my card I do not expect them to have a leg to stand on!

Devonwoody,
Please post a link to the Amazon page from which you placed your order, for we will need to see it in order to offer you a considered opinion on this matter.
Many thanks,
Jack (W)

They have changed their display page today, it now quotes the linen size, definitely was not displayed when visited and order placed.

so I'd be surprised if Barclaycard are supportive since you ordered the wrong size. Anyway good luck, I hope you get a conclusion that you are satisfied with.

nseries, you have misread my last post, they have changed the display since I ordered and complained so things are now in my favour.

Changing display details to correct must leave them in an awkward position with Barclaycard?

Well visa wont go to that situation, and Amazon I cannot believe also, if I look into my previous history on the internet would the actual page I viewed display or only the latest and any way my invoice just describes goods as single as well without the sizes quoted.
