hi lads today i have been making some wedges for some moulding planes as we know all the old boys had a name stamp for i,d
purpose and it got me looking around all my tools how or what is the best way to i,d my tools
how do you do it i have pictures but a mark on the tool would be better

i want to mark all my metal planes x 27
all my chisels x60 +
its the metal i want to mark its to easy to take a name off wood

-I would not inscribe my name on old tools. Many of them still have names of long dead woodworkers on them and I am just one in a long line of owners. I doubt they would be very interesting to thiefs anyway.
-On tools I have made myself I usually make some kind of marking though I doubt there are any thiefs who would steal them. After all most thiefs are incompetent drug addicts or East European maffia who aren't likely to put any value on home made tools for a trade they don't know.
-I usually write my name in big letters on expensive new tools. I hope that would deter some thiefs as they usually seem to be looking for new tools.

Just my thoughts.....

Get a name stamp made. One day I'll get another a bit nicer looking ;)
