I have been asked to make an oak backing frame which has a stainless steel plaque screwed to it. (30cm x 10cm)
It will be displayed outside in an exposed position.
Any recommendations for the finish on the oak?
Thanks
John

The best finish in this situation is none at all. The oak will go that nice silvery colour and will last for a very long time. An open grained timber like oak will not retain a finish for very long in an exposed situation and will quite quickly look tatty. In my opinion, it is better by far to let nature take its course.
