A friends oak engineered floor needs some care and attention, in a couple of areas where the varnish/finish has worn the oak is lightly stained with what looks like pasta sauce but being open grained its below the surface .
Any suggestions for cleaning the stains and refinishing the worn patches. I've got an offcut from when the floor was laid so I can experiment but I'm not sure what the finish is, it looks like a thin matt lacquer or a thin polyurethane.
