Hi all,
Just thought I would introduce myself. I am a picture framer and although i do all types of framing, i tend to specialise in large hand finished frames. For normal frames, i use a mitre guillotine and underpinner, but for bigger builds, the largest i've done being 14 foot by 12 foot, i use mortice and tenon joints. I have built other bits and pieces including doors and windows.
Having said that, i have so much i want to learn. I have been browsing the forum and learning loads so decided it was time i joined properly. I will be looking for some new kit at some point as well and i reckon this looks the best place for advice. I am very keen to develop my woodworking skills to be able to take on other projects, and take back to my framing. I have a couple of clients wanting outdoor notice boards built at some point and although i have made these for my local shop and rugby club, i have seen some excellent posts on here with very useful info on design.
I will also be after help on wood turning as although i won't get much time to do this, i intend to buy a lathe for my father who is now retired and is a keen woodworker.
Just to give an example of what i do, this is a frame i made recently for a customer who is a world champion gymnast and wanted the leotard and medal framed. This was made from 4 mouldings joined and biscuit jointed to make a box frame.
