Hi

Having struggled for years I have dug deep and bought a nearly new Fedler KF700 (first proper machine). However I have a few questions...which I hope you will be able to answer.

1. I have the long telescoping arm attached to the sliding table (not the rip fence) this has a scale on it but whats this for, is it the spindle moulder? as it starts at 160mm and I can't imagine you have to set the fence 160mm from the blade that does not sould like Felder engineering to me?

2. Under this fence is a black know which does not do anything the handbook seems to suggest it holds in the telescopic part of the arm but I cant see it as there is a metal plate in the way.

3. Mine does not come with an outrigger frame (cash & space issues) but that just leaves the long arm/fence with nothing to rest the wood on, has anyone made anything to do this job?

thansk for your help the manual is awful!

Welcome to the forum Willis and congrats on the new saw/spindle. I cannot help as I have never had the pleasure of using anything Felder, but I believe it to be the excellent machinery so I'm sure it will all perform for you in the end.

Cheers, Ed

Welcome to the forum

I have a felder combination machine. The crosscut fence does start at 160 because it is measuring for the stops that come with the fence (these are off set). If you want to cut shorter pieces I use a false fence fixed to the feleder fence by the T slot in the fence. It works well for mitres and cutting tennons as well. A tip (not that I have ever made this mistake!!!!) is to ensure the fence is properly aligned before you start otherwise the measurements will be out. Slide the fence fully back from the blade until it registers against the preset stop.

You can buy a small extension table that will fix on the side of the sliding table this is about 400mm long. This will allow you to support reasonable lengths of timber. I use this most of the time. But like all felder parts they cannot be described as cheap. Normally they have a sale at Xmas but I noted that this year it is more limited. They have some good saw blade deals at the moment if you need any.

Hi Willis, congratulations on the new saw.

1. The scale is for the cross-cut function of the saw. I assume you did not have the machine commissioned because the engineer ought to have run through this if you did. It only starts at 160mm, and in fact you are unlikely to get the stop even as close as this, because you don't want to be cross-cutting anything very short becasue it's dangerous! The scale won't be any use for the spindle unless you calculate an offset. I won't go into the detail of how to set the scale because you first need to adjust the sliding table for level and run-out, if necessary, and then set the fence for square before you adjust the scale. All of which is quite involved - PM me if you're stuck.

2. The black knob locks the telescopic fence extension in place. Slacken it to allow it to be drawn out.

3. With no outrigger, you would be well advised to buy one of the small extension tables which hang off the side of the slding table. This is an adequate set-up for most small and medium sized solid and panel work.

Hope that helps but happy to discuss.

I have a workshop full of Felders, I used to own the KF700 you mention.

If you don't have the outrigger the long fence is not much use to you. The fence does indeed start at 160mm when clamped to the outrigger table.

Do you have the short X cut fence 1100mm long and the mounting kit to attach it directly to the X roll sliding table ??. As this is the usual way of using the saw and moulder without an outrigger. Although it does limit the usability of the machine somewhat.

You can get the very small side table attachment but it is small  but you need the small X cut fence as I mentioned above.

I have some photo's somewhere if you wish.

You can get a survival guide to setup the machine (non Felder product) which is excellent, it's the manual Felder should have supplied, but didn't. (the accountants moved in at Felder some time back :) ) But it's quite pricey now. I still have & use mine to setup the machines at every service interval. But you will need some specialist tools to get the machine setup spot on.

hope this helps

Guys

Thanks for all your advice, I have been looking on felders website for some time (I bought my saw 2nd hand so didn't have the benefit of specifying everything from new) is this the table which attachs to the fence and sliding table to which you refer?

http://mk.felder-gruppe.at/?page=shop_node&node=2539

As I agree the fence is not that useful without something,

Thanks again

Mark

Here's your link Here.

That's the one, Felder used to do a cheaper version, but not listed anymore. That extension works with the short 1100 fence, by the time you've got both items you'll have spent £200 ish .

Felder know how to charge, another 15% added next month, on top of the 12% earlier this year  .

Thanks

Would be happy to pay £200 but on the website the total thing is £489 before VAT, unless I am missing something?

I do like your strap line but even so.....

If it is this much I may as well buy the whole outrigger set for £1,000 however I only paid £3,500 for the whole machine with spindle cutters etc included.

Felder do understand charging and the weaking pound is only going to push all imported items up in the new year.
