I am in the process of manufacturing some Iroko decking and have to decide what finish I'm going to use and when to apply it.

Unless I want to change the colour of the Iroko (which I don't), some sort of oil looks to be the generally accepted wisdom.

There are quite a few products available, some of which recommend allowing the timber to "weather" for some months before application.

Does anybody have some practical experience of applying a decking oil to a hardwood like Iroko?

I've oiled iroko and I reckon it's fairly temporary on anything horizontal in the uk. iroko is very durable so the timber won't rot . I think you need to establish your wants. and try to ascertain which finish will give you the closest.
