Hi guys

current client wants solid surface worktops, i understand the basics but am a bit cloudy on some of the details. Can anyone recommend a good book or online guide, have found a few pages but nothing with real information on.

many thanks

Hi adidat

I've fitted quite a few now but the majority have been 25mm thick Mistral who produce some good training videos http://www.karonia.com/installation.html which show similar techniques used on all solid surfaces. I've just finished one last week as it happens.
Joining will be your biggest hurdle and if you can borrow some seaming clamps it will make life much easier though you can do it with glue blocks and clamps. Most important is to produce very good routed edges to be joined.

cheers
Bob
edit: The reason I said borrow the clamps is because a pair will cost you upwards of £300. Pay for themselves over several jobs but not a one off.

thanks for the reply Bob

yeah i saw them, they certainly pricey. i think i will try and make do with the glue blocks and clamps seems like a good idea, also about the mirror join by running a router along the straight edge. what do use for sticking down to the mdf base gripfill?

Any of the good adhesives will stick it but unnecessary with Mistral as it's twice the thickness of Corian and you can just rout an edge to finish. You might be able to hire the clamps as they really do make life easy. Secret of an "invisible" joint is - perfect mating edges, generous glue and tightly clamped perfectly aligned edges then it's just a case of removing excess adhesive and going through the sanding grits with a ROS / abranet.
Use the correct adhesive for the joins, expensive but colour matched and the only way you can do the joint properly
cheers
Bob

EDIT:
I've shown these before, of my own kitchen and utility plus a breakfast room table. You really do have to look very hard to see the joins.
