ok scrit, how about number one is a wide sander

still think number two is a jointing machine, so how about
one that gives a shape like ikea beech worktops???

kind of a serrated edge???
:?
paul

it looks like some kind of gang drilling machine
the hopper on the top would have been their to dispense something
and its obviously foot operated
the end stop is their to stop the board moving away from the cutter heads
and to allow pressure to be applied for the insertion of . possibly dowels
any where near scrit ???
mel

Yes indeed, Mel! Give the man a cupie doll! It is a White type ZI high speed dowel gluer and driver. The hopper on top takes loose dowels which are fed down tubes to the inserting heads. Hot hide glue (hence the steam heat to keep it liquid) is automatically squirted into pre-drilled holes in the leg, panel or whatever and the dowels driven into the holes. I had though that these were relatively modern machines as the only ones I'd ever seen were Italian machines dating from the 1980s or later and certainly firms like Wadkin never made this sort of stuff, so finding a machine being offered in the 1940s was quite a surprise to me.

Scrit
