Can anyone confirm the electric motor power for a ml8 lathe?

I note that the lathe was originally supplied with a 0.75hp single phase 1425 rpm motor.

I have bought a ml8, off Gumtree, and upon stripping down find it has a very old (1938???) Brook motor which the plate suggests it is 6.25hp.

Surely too much?

Suggestions for a reliable supplier for alternatives please.

Thanks

Mine specified 0.75 HP single phase or 0.5 HP 3-phase. I think 3HP is just about the most you can run on single phase supply so 6ish is way off.

Can you take some pics of the motor label, or plate and let the more knowledgable (which is not me) give their opinions? It would be a better option. regards rodders

Well done guys
graduate_owner can straight go to the top of the class!
It's amazing what a bit of sunshine and some spit and polish can do to years of accumulated gunk. See attached
Careful inspection of the motor label revealed as per you suggestion that it is indeed the amps that are 6.25 and the HP is 1.
Thanks anyway for the help.

Just in case it helps, my muh later ML8 has the following info on the plate:
1425 rpm motor (0.5 hp 3-phase or 0/5 h.p and 0.75 hp 1-phase)
Four speeds were available: 700, 1140, 1780 and 2850 rpm.
There seem to be occasional replacements on evilBay (about once every month or so).
Good luck.
Steve
