This is my first ever try at a pen, it's
spalted beech i think. The only thing i
have made before this were dibbers
which promptly disappeared to family
members. :) My camera batteries still
need charging so I've scanned the picture,
a little tip i picked up on the woodnet forum.
All comments gratefully accepted good or bad,
although the missus has claimed it already.

Simple sleek lines, all that's needed, nothing to detract from the woods character, certainly a step up in tool and dimension control from the dibbers.

Very nice for your first try, maybe you are hooked!! what did you use to finish it with it looks dull in the pic?

nice pen kevin, looks like a good fit and i love spalted beech. I also like the natural look of wood too, not too shiny.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone
I must admit to being very pleased with the
outcome as i haven't used the lathe for at least
a year, and my neck pain is back so it is anyones
guess when i'll use it again :(
The finish i've used is 2 coats of sanding sealer
and 2 coats of karate kid beeswax (wipe on, wipe off).
Both myself and the missus like wood to be as plain
as possible hence the dull look Thomas. :)
