Hello all,

I was eventually lucky enough to buy a Barn conversion in Cornwall with enough land to buil a workshop.

Due to the land it required 12Te of hardcore and 10Te of reinforced concrete :!: You could launch a rocket off it

I designed it on Autocad, the irregular shape was to make the most of the space without having to fell an oak tree. The roof was quite a challenge but with the help of a carpenter friend we got there.

I used a product called Eco Slate for the roof on 18mm ply, not the cheapest option but will last and matches the slate roof of our barn. The frame work is 4x2 and 4x4 where required. Windows are double glazed so once insulated should be warm in winter.

Next job is the wiring and insluation. Haven't decided yet about the inside cladding, I could use plaster board and plaster the inside but then it is a workshop and not a house!!

Anyway, hope you enjoy the pics..........

Yes, it is a Turkey Oak, it will be fire wood when it eventually comes down :p Chainsaw at the ready :!: :!:

It has quite decent figuring, but it's quite easily bruised apparently, so I've read. I've read somewhere that the reason it's so common in Cornwall is because in bygone centuries they were planted/encouraged because they were straighter and quicker growing than the English ones, so were cheaper to use as pit props.
