As the title says, this is my first attempt at a solitary, free range bit of furniture for a mate.
Ash frame, unidentified red timber wedges and pins, yew top.

I'll stick a finished piccy up when the recipient of the table pulls his proverbial finger out, and takes some.

I think the curves on the rails of the frame and the frame overall is lovely. Undecided about the top until I see finished photos. Good standard of work, well done.

Cracking workmanship on the frame, really like the use of wedged tenons - I'm a big fan of those.

Have to agree with Roger though - not convinced it's the right frame for that top.

If you click on it, you get a fairly high res picture and it looks good in that.

Nice work I reckon.

Ditto on liking both the frame and top, but that they look a little off together. Is it maybe because the top comes in fairly close to the apron at some points? I think it messes with the overall scale of the piece, making the frame look like it's too tall for the top.

Still, excellent workmanship all around. I really like the top a lot.

Personally, I'm not that fond of 'natural' edges in the first place, so my opinion on the top as it is isn't really worth much.

But - again, personally - I think even were it square-edged, the contrast between the rich, saturated colour of the top compared to the fairly-grey colour of the frame and the not-so-rich red of the wedges wouldn't be my cup of tea. Were the top the same red as the wedges it'd probably tie together more, but having that saturation contrast in there as well as the hue contrast puts me off.

But like everyone else - I love the frame, it's great!

Thanks for the comments, I'm afraid that the top/frame issue is a case of "the customer's always right!"
It was built on a very tight budget, so when one of the top boards was found to be pretty much useless (Yandles do make a mess of some bits of timber) I wasn't left with much spare, leading to the small overhang in places. That'll teach me to think that boards of timber from the same tree will be the same thickness at Yandles!
I have to say that I'm happier with it when I see it in the flesh rather than photos, but it still is a little odd.
Still, the frame was one of the most enjoyable bits I've made to date.
