Hi to everyone, and I hope Santa didn't forget to bring you your workshop goodies!! (I had a number of Axminster vouchers. The wife and children think I'm really sad, but of course vouchers for M&S and NEXT - now they are really cool).

I've been giving some more thought to dust extraction, and I just wondered whether turners use dust masks or vacuum collection whilst they are actually turning. I don't see them used very often on videos, and I don't use them myself, but should I be doing so?

When it comes to sanding, I know dust collection is essential, but I was wondering if there is significant dust generated with the shavings.

I'd be interested to know what the 'regulars' think.

yes you should be using a dust mask at all times.

In an ideal world you should have three levels of protection- personal, at source and ambient

I use a trend air shield all of the time plus i have a microclean running all of the time then i use my extractor when i'm sanding or if the wood is very dusty when i'm turning too
