If its any help to anyone I have the 14v version, which is almost the same, and it is a brilliant bit of kit. I think the 12v is rated as 60nm torque, which is good, and is quite lightweight.

I didn't notice, but mine has the nimh batts, which are good. I dunno about nicads.

I think I read the torque was 65Nm on one of the spec pages for the 12V version but whats 5Nm between friends :)

Delivered price seems to be £96.53 which is a bargain with 3 x 3Ah batteries.

Find yourself another Makita 12v bare drill and share the batteries between them, double bargain as the bodies on their own can be found quite cheaply.
