Bernard is a lifetime furniture maker but, just as importantly, he is an endlessly encouraging and inspirational teacher who gives his all to help students achieve the best result they can. An important part of the attraction is that he is willing to work with students ahead of the course, by phone and email, to help them develop the design of whatever they wish to make. The big advantage of this for students who are willing to put the effort in is that they can arrive at West Dean with a full understanding of their project, so they can hit the ground running.
West Dean is in the heart of the Sussex Downs in a lovely setting, so if the idea of a summer break making furniture with like minded people who are always willing to help each other appeals to you, do think about it. This is an advanced course so you will need well tuned tools and an understanding of how to use them.
