Mahogany money box

I've made a money box in mahogany for the grandchildren, I have some Chestnut Hard Wax Oil and also a bottle of Shellac, which would be best to finish the box and how do I apply the two different finishes?

I would go the hard wax oil. Wipe on, wipe off excess after a few mins. It goes on really easily.

I would shy away from shellac because the it is likely to get handled.
