1. I’m in a bit of a quandary, I need to move a new dust extractor into the workshop, primarily for dealing with lathe produced dust, but would like to have the option of using it for chop saw, small 10” bench saw, pillar drill, small sanding table and router table produced dust.

Caveat: I cannot site any dust vacuum machines outside of my garage workshop, due to nuisance factors

2. I’ve narrowed the choice down to:

 Numatic NV750 Workshop Vacuum Extractor (equipment is equipped with 51mm hose only, noise level is 70dBA

 Numatic NVD750-2 Workshop Vacuum Extractor, can take both 100mm , 32mm hose, but noise levels are 79dBA (considerable noise escalation, as for every additional 3dBA the noise doubles)

3. Questions

Does anyone use a 51mm hose for dust capture on lathe, by using a connection onto a large Mouth Dust Hood to be located close to the headstock? My perceptions are that a 100mm hose would be better.

If anyone uses the NVD750-2 are the noise levels tolerable? Again my perceptions are that due to the heat output of this machine putting into an enclosure within the workshop is a non starter.

4. Anyone using these machines I would welcome your help and advice on the above questions, also comments on their serviceability and durability would be well recieved.

Kind regards

I think some members either use those or the camvac equivalents and some have built them into enclosures without issues.

Ive got the dual motor nvd750, its a great piece of kit. I wouldnt say its that noisey, prob less than your domestic cleaner, but my god it sucks well. One thing I have found is that it sucks so hard with a 32mm hose that the noise increases significantly, mainly due to rushing in the nozzle. I would recommend 100mm as the way forward with this for that reason, however for lathe work im not convinced the air flow is high enough for a big hood. Its got lots of suck, but still a limited air volume movement, what you need is cfm's or cu.m's. Therefore you're probably be better investing in a regular chip extractor with a fine filter cartridge. Something in the 1600Plus cu m's per hr would be good. Other advantages are that they're much quieter and you get more bag capacity.

Hth, tom.

Many thanks for both of your input, I've just ordered the Dual Motor nvd750. The noise issue on the 32mm hose does not worry me as use on tooling will be short duration. It will be interesting to see how it works on the 100mm hose, I have a big mouth dust hood coming which I will try to set up close to lathe head.

I have two room air cleaners, but want to try to manage the dust issue at source. I have a chip collector but need to reduce the footprint to free up work-space, so I'll move that on after I see how effective the 750 is.

Again thanks for your kind feedback, its appreciated.

Kind regards

Aden
