I think I'd like to go with this idea. Were you just thinking of twisting the paracord with some timber that's permanently in place?

Trying to find a local camping / climbing shop that sells it as I'd like to do it tomorrow, but can only find the original stuff online.
 
Trigaar, that's what I was thinking of, yes. That way you can re-tighten in the future if you need to. I buy mine online, but make sure it is actual Paracord and not just green string, cos I've seen cheap imitations. It should be 7 strand I think.
