Hi i haven,t got a lathe and i want to turn a 8 inch wood log just to round it off i,m making a train planter box and i want the log to act as the boiler in front any idea,s :idea: :idea:

Draw a circle on each end and plane down to the line.

Or chainsaw, axe and draw knife, depending how big, then maybe plane to tidy up if needed...

You should be able to get fairly close with your bandsaw and then a touch up with your plane and sander?

A hand drill, a router, table saw, disk sander...
I'm sure there are videos on YT that explain how to do it.

Yes Alexam i was hoping to use a band saw with some sort of jig, but as the others suggestions i now have a couple of options i have seen a video with a circle cutting jig and wondering if they would be able to work with a 8 inch log :?: :?:

If you use a log be prepared for the finished cylinder to acquire a split as it dries.

I have been using a log with the bark taken off iv.e made the odd one or two trains using the best logs i can find
But no it,s not important i,m just thinking out loud if there were any jig,s for the band saw to cut a log to suit
