I saw this device which is used for drilling chair spindles on Pinterest and decided to order one. The cost was $56.97 including shipping by UPS and on arrival I had to pay $27.85 Customs duty. Somewhat pricey methinks
Unfortunate that the UK tool dealers do not stock Lee Valley products, as their catalogue contains many items that I am sure would sell well.

That's a lot of customs duty.
I think a lot of it will either be VAT and/or a courier handling fee. The actual customs fee will be no more than 10% at the very most.

I don't know your post office works but for us Canucks buying out of the States, we prefer using the our post office instead of a courier like FedEx. We still have to pay VAT(GST&PST) taxes and brokerage fees. The post office charges a good deal less brokerage fees, like $15 compared to $35 or more. Sometimes the post office doesn't even bother.
