We have a 30watt LED security floodlight and it's pretty bright. A 500w halogen was too bright for us, but as a guess the 30watt LED is similar to a 300w halogen. If you want a 500w equivalent, something like this at 5500 lumens would be pretty bright. I never cease to be amazed at how bright the 10w LED floodlight we have around the back of our house is.

I have a 40watt outside and 2 the same in my garage not as bright as 500w halogen but ok angle of coverage ok the transition from light to dark is more sudden than halogen have a look at ledhut good selection there

Thanks guys. While searching I also came across this page.

EDIT: Do NOT believe the Ecoledlight website. Their quoted light output figures for LEDs are way out.

Think I may have a go with a 50w and see how it goes. Fed up keep clambering up the ladder replacing halogen bulbs.

I've got two 9 watt floodlights, really good light and the best bit they're cheap to run.
Had the one about 3 years and the other one was bought this year, I expect I would have changed the old halogen bulbs at least half a dozen times.

Morning Roger

Thinking about getting some of these myself.

I would have thought 50W would give a decent amount of light if they're Cree LEDs?

Do you have a link, or make and model of the ones you bought?

Cheers
Stu

Cheers. I was expecting to see more than one LED chip. Guess that's why they're not living-up to expectations. It'll be interesting to see what your light meter reveals.

Roger, how big an area are you looking to light? do you need to just walk in that area without tripping over things or read a book type brightness?

We're about 200metres from the nearest street light, have an assortment of halogen, LED (10w 20w 30w) and some auto lights that have the 22w low energy bulbs... even the 10w LED (10 x 1w LED in an alloy housing) is enough to throw light 30metres, enough to walk without tripping over things. The low energy bulbs take a few seconds to come up to speed and full power in about a minute, but they have been very good value. Lots cheaper than LED. they came from one of the big retailers..

Higon, it's for security purposes. The light from these naff LEDs shows that there might be someone walking past in the gloom. Gone back to decent 500w worth of halogen.

I bought a Livarno LED security light from Lidl for £12 a few weeks ago.

I expected it to be complete garbage, but it is actually pretty good.

Body is made out of coated metal with some weather sealing. Bright enough to light up the small drive way between my side door and my garage so that I can see a set of keys to unlock/lock doors.

I have a 10w floodlight which shows enough to go to the car or have a walk about without bumping in to anything.

I also have a 6.5w dusk till dawn lamp post which gives very similar output.

Lets us see to get about and shows others that there is life here.
