This is made from some very old chestnut that has been lying around for some years. It stands 12" tall and is 6" max. Dia. All splits, natural fissures etc have been left open and where necessary sanded clean. C&C welcome as always

Beautiful. Vases like that are why I have just brought a lathe.

Love the shape, just like an old Royal Worcester vase.

Very Nice indeed.
What finish have you used as I know some will leave white residue in the fissures, I ask this as I am doing some bits with bark inclusions and also some splits

Thanks guys. I give things like this a good soak in sealer first, lightly sand back then buff on a wheel finishing with carnuba. Occasionally I have to spend a bit of time getting some of the lint out of the splits where it catches but otherwise don't have a problem. Getting polish into cracks etc happens if you use one of the soft wax polishes or sometimes with melamine where the liquid gathers and sets in them.

I just love seeing beautiful bits of wood like that. wood and stone are two of my favourite materials. You have really shown it off to its best.

Thank you folk. It is all in place but not glued. I do these and leave them a bit as sometimes they move or I change my mind and adapt them. Got a few more bits of this wood so hopefully I'll get some different vessels from it.
