Large/Heavy Item couriers recommendation?

Hi there,

My friend wants to take a piece of machinery off my hands (a bench drill) and we can't find a courier/delivery company that will accept it without putting it on a pallet (Most pallet delivery companies seem rather suspect!)

Can anyone recommend either a large/heavy item courier or a pallet delivery company they have used in the past maybe?

how far does it have to go? I have used shiply for a saw, which was good on the one occasion that I have done so. I would use it again, or anyvan. I havent tried, but it might get expensive for hundreds of miles.

Same day couriers charge per mile starting from around 80p for a Transit-sized van and more for a Sprinter or luton. However, unless you are able to assist the driver at both ends then a tail lift is necessary, which are generally only fitted to some lutons / 7.5 tonners etc.

If it's not urgent then backload rates are considerably less but it could mean the drill is stored in a warehouse or the back of the van until the firm have other consignments going the same way. This is how shiply and anyvan work.

By far the cheapest option would be to palletise the drill. Phone round some companies first and see whether they'll accept it just on a pallet or if they would prefer it crated. If that's the case then simply break up some pallets to build a basic crate around the drill.

My father will probably know of firms in the South West so I'll ask him tomorrow for you.

if you want it quick do not use Speedshift pallet. they were ment to pick my milling machine up on the 21 and they hane told me it may be here by the 28 or 29

would renting a little van work? might not be that expensive. Especially if you have a local garage that sells that kind of vehicle.
