Hi folks
I have ordered the vacuum bag press and have been busy on some designs for some furniture.
I'm coming up with a question and I can't come to an answer.
I would like to bend some Plywood and join the two ends. Create a complete loop.
Similar to the Alvar Aalto design. How has he created this continues curve?.
Would it be a case of leaving the leaves of the ply over length and to create an overlap joint and then glue those two faces together?.
Not sure how else to do it really.

They were probably vacuumed or steamed in several stages, adding a layer or two at a time and putting the joint in different places. that way you don't get a weak spot that a butt joint would create.

Hi,
I used to work with a man who did this sort of work, & he actually used TWO sheets of ply glued, & then bent to shape with the glue still wet, & leaving an overlap on each end. It used to work very well, but I don't know if that method is still used today.
