Dear forum members,
I want to make small knifes, f.ex. marking knifes, and for the blade I will use jigsaw blades. I have done that in the past, and it works OK.

But Axi f.ex. sells 40 different blades, so which ones are best for making knife blades?

I am looking for something that is as stiff as possible. For marking knifes a thin blade is required, but still should be as stiff as possible.

Sharpening is also important. Different steel have different ability to take a razor edge, so this is highly desireable.

Any advice?

I use 2mm HSS tool-steel from one of the Hongkong eBay sellers but old single use planer blades do well. You'll need a grinder of some sort.

Here's a yew handled one using 2mm HSS ...

I've made them from old Stanley knife blades, bandsaw blades, jigsaw blades and O1 Gauge Plate.
You just need to anneal them as necessary and then heat treat them.
