Hi there,

So my JPT-260 has failed again, this time the power feed jammed and on inspection the drive chain has come off the outfeed roller sproket and jammed against the housing. I'm a hobbiest so this machine has only had 10-20 hours of use and it's already been back to Axminster once because the blades contacted a faulty dust extraction housing part. Ergh.

Anyway, aside from needing a new chain as it has a stiff link (don't know if this was pre- or post-jam) does anyone know how to tension it correctly? When I first opened up the back the chain was so loose it's no surprise it came off. I tried it tighter but it was making not very pleasant sound so I backed it off a little, to allow the sort of slack I'd have on a motorbike chain, and it came off and jammed again.

If I run it with the covers off I can see the kink in the chain and it seems to get worse with time. Lubing didn't help so I'm not sure if it was an original defect or if the act of jamming caused it. Either way, it needs to be replaced so I'll get on the phone on Monday. But does anyone have any experience of how tight it should be?

Secondly, I noticed another symptom as well which is that the drive feels very jerky. I couldn't determine if this is due to the chain bouncing round but it was struggling to pull some timber through while taking only 1mm off. Seemed to get stuck regularly as if the drive was slipping somehow but I couldn't work it out. However, that leads on to...

I also noticed that the main drive wheels for the belt drive were very hot indicating the belt slipping. Should the belt be slipping during use? It feels tight, at least the same as a pillar drill belt once tensioned, but I wasn't expecting the pulleys to get hot.

Thanks, Shareef.
