Roy Underhill does one with a nail in on one of his shows, soak the last tooth in hot water then compress it in a vice, leave to dry and drill a hole for the nail.
Then back it the hot water to swell it back up.
Here's my version with a lump of chestnut and a pencil
I boiled the wood in a bucket of water and then compressed one end in a vice and left it to dry. When it is dry it will stay compressed while you drill the hole and insert the pencil (or nail or screw etc). After inserting the pencil it gets re-boiled until the wood expands to its original size & shape.
If you decide to do one, don't finish it until it has had time to settle down (2 - 3 weeks) as the wood is likely to move quite a bit while it dries. Once dry you can finish to final size. I used a belt sander for the final sizing.
