I was given an old record 7" disc sander 2 weeks ago, just got around to thinking about it.
The motor works, but its only a 170 watt.
I'm wondering if it worth the effort to put it into service.
I would need three new screws to hold the disc on, which is no big deal at all, but its a plain disc.
I already have a plain disc 6" sander that frankly I have given up using because its such a pain gluing on new and scraping off old discs just to have about 2 inch worth of sanding surface.
If I'm going to use this I would want a velcro thingy and easy attach pads. Dont know exactly what I would need, hence my question.
How much would it cost me to get whatever velcro adaptor and pads I might need, and once bought, is this a really handy tool to have, or did the guy just give it away because he was fed up with it and I should also pass it on?

I modified a cheapo Aldi bench grinder/belt sander combo by replacing the grinding disc with a 180mm diameter piece of mdf. Then applied some Velcro 50mm strips (Toolstation, £7.98 per 1m roll)
TS also do some 180mm hook and loop sanding discs (Toolpack brand) £3.50 per pack of 10, 120-240-320-400 grit.
Works a treat.

flip it on its side, make a tool rest, instant tool sharperner. :)

now while we are on about sharpening?????? not really

I don't use mine very much, preferring to use a belt sander instead.

If you have a lathe or a machine of any description that has a metal disc, if you find some water soluble glue you can stick your abrasive paper to it then soak it off when it's spent. Much, much easier than trying to get impact adhesive off.

mmmm, got a tool sharpener.
Cant do much with the disc (as in adding depth) as its a close fit on the full width table.

I have a suddenly large toodoo list after 4 weeks baby sitting. Soon as I get to the end of the list I shall make a final decision, although at the moment i think I'm going to move it on.
