Hi, I'm using a Netgear nighthawk modem router in my house, and I want to get a wifi signal in my shed some 200ft away. Obviously that's too far so I've got a length of cat5e running to my shed.... Now what? Not really sure what to buy to connect to it?

Any advice? Cheers.

If you want wireless, you want a wireless access point :). Or if you have a spare router you could set that up as ab AP, but that's a bit more involved.

Just use another wifi router like you have in your house :)

In fact I have a brand new Vodafone router you can have if you like?

Arron...how sophisticated is your Vodafone router ? I'm after one that I can telnet into to see what sort/how many errors there are occurring on the ADSL line.

If you want wifi there and have the cat5e run, just plug one end into your router inside and the other end into a wifi access point in the shed (literally just google "wifi access point" and it'll turn up a few - they're basically repeaters for your house wifi).

You'll need to put RJ45 plugs on the end of the cables, with the appropriate tool.
and then plug one end into router in house and one into either PC in shed or Access point/ router in shed.

If you don't want to invest in RJ45 crimping tool you could put sockets on the ends of the cable, which have IDC (push in ) connections to cable, and then run a short lead from each to router and pc etc.

What the last two guys have said. Cat5 into the router and an access point on it.

I have wifi in my workshop but i used power line sockets for that but if you've already run cable then you just need a wireless access point to plug in.

Shhit on a stick, Roger - I haven't enough life left to read the list on mine. :D

Thanks, Arron, but looks as if this is locked down by Vodafone and they don't like people telnetting in to it !
