intarsia

I was thinking about trying some intarsia work being new to scroll work Ive sent for a book for begginers,just read the posted item otters and saw that the thickness of the wood used in intarsia is 11/2"-2"in thickness is there no way that items of less thickness can be used ie 1" with detraxting from the finish.

Mine may not be as good as those who do a lot more but the Chicken I have just completed is only 1/2" thick
