How about something like this with Grandma instead of cupcake and the cupcake cut out in 2 parts, painted and glued on?

I don't know what style of things you usually do, are they ever painted or are they normally just plain wood, relying on the cutting for the design?

What about an apple pie? You could do some nice wavy internal cuts around the edge for the pie crust, and an apple and leaf design at the top/middle (depending if it would work best as a side or top view). "Grandma" could go on the pie tin, or curved around the pie crust.

I had a play while I'm waiting for the garage to get a bit warmer, Simple, but just an idea I started playing with and possibly a start.

Martin.

Just a quick question, do you have software to generate drawings, or are you good at art.

I struggle to draw a line using a straight edge. No art skills what so ever, at school I was barred from the art class, had to spend my time in the library, also crap at English, so that was a waste of time.

Steve, there is a Grandma sign on Steve Goods site today, for download.

Regards.

I am completely useless at art, Chris, but I am OK with computers, hardware or software. Any program I can't figure out for myself, I find the answer online somewhere.
The cookie figure is an outline I made from a photo I found on Google, the rest is easily done in the program.

There is a free graphics program available called Inkscape. It is quite baffling at first, but if you work through the tutorials, and in particular, the Manual under the Help button, it is possible to fairly quickly get enough skill to make drawings and lettering.

Many thanks, I will certainly have a look, but the one word that jumps out of your post at me is “baffling”, I can be baffled by the simplest thing, when it comes using/operating a computer.
I am not of the computer generation. #-o

I hear what you are saying, but have a play with it. You can work at your own pace and even if you just use it to make basic shapes it is definitely worth sticking at. The tutorials and the manual are really good and once you have worked through the first couple of exercises in the manual, you'll be surprised at what you can do with it.
