Hi all
I have a couple of old tools (plane and saw) which are , as far as I am aware, a bit weird. I would like to see if anyone can shed any light on these two. Please?

Any ideas? The saw is like a floorboard saw, but with a spine, which kinda means its not a floorboard saw per se. And the plane, I believe is a sash plane? The blade is missing (temporarily) but I hope you can see it seems to go up the side, so is not a normal T + G plane; I think?

Any help greatly appreciated; I have had these some time and have no idea. My fella, who is a galoot too hasn't seen them before, and Salaman and Google are drawing blanks.

TIA

Caz

I don't know but the saw may have been converted or customised by the user - either as a floorboard saw or as a type of veneer saw.

My guess is that the saw was modified by its owner, who knew that a floorboard saw has a curve ( so you can start a cut without access to an edge) but did not want or could not afford to buy one. So he ground the corner off an ordinary tenon saw and filed teeth in it.

As for the plane, I thought it might be a glass check plane - a Scottish pattern which cut two putty rebates at once, working on the edge of a board. But the depth of cut is too small. So I think it just a tonguing plane, slightly unusual for being made with a bench plane style of mouth, and a handle. Presumably it makes quite a wide cut, so the chunkier design makes sense. Can you read the maker's name?

Thanks for the prompt reply Mignal (and now Andy); if that is the case it has been expertly done. Which is not to say that is not the case, but it feels original. The teeth are all uniform and the curve is perfect. It is made by John Petty and Sons, Sheffield and the more I look at it the more I think it is some sort of hybrid-ish thing.

The plane is made by a Mr R Hardy of Hull. Can anyone shed any light on it?

Thanks guys

Caz
