I drove 60 miles to buy 3 big lumps of elm which the guy said was seasoned 3 years old with no cracks, when I got there he dragged the sections out from behind a shed, bone dry and big cracks in one end sodden wet at the other, all 3 were like that plus two had signs of worm or lava. Such a waste as they would have turned beautifully. It might have been possible to rescue some of it but there was no way you could see how extensive the cracks were and he wanted €100 for them wouldn't split and sell one or budge on price.
I left them, pity as good wood is difficult to find in France.
