How would i achieve this with a normal piece of wood and without a router. Or can i buy a piece like this already edged?

If the job is one where you want the object rather than the "fun" of making it, just get somebody to run a length across a router table, or but a coat rack

Why not just chamfer? I chamfer a lot of stuff, dead easy to do with a no4 plane and adds a bit of character.
