As per my previous post i reclaim as much wood as possible from random finds and sources.

Recently a friend of mine had chopped up and burnt half a piano. I got to him just before the main structure for the strings found an axe.

This had two beams, i believe pine for the main supports, these were attached between 3 smaller blocks and then one long beam for its main support on the bootom of the back. The string set up was glued onto the beam structure with all the little tuning heads.

I ideally at the least want to seperate the 3 beam sections out and if at all possible the hard wood board from the string structure, but how to do it? Is there a way of dissolving the glue, it was an old piano by the looks of what remained but nothing collectable. My only thought at present is a reciprocating saw which i dont have or a very long hand saw and alot of time which i could be best used in doing something else lol.

Thanks

Matt

I think you'll have to cut it away and whatever time it takes is what it takes.
Sometimes free stuff will cost a little bit, and It may well be a nice, solid piece of Spanish, or Honduras mahogany.

Possibly the easiest way to start with is using heat directed at any glue lines. A hair dryer is very useful in this regard, and you may have one around the house. Point the hot air at the joint and see if the glue loosens, wiggling a palette knife (or similar) can help. Hopefully, if the piano is old, then the glue used will be amenable to this treatment.

Cheers,
Adam
