How do you use your card scraper?

...when pushing your thumbs press the edge down onto the work so you can take shavings, when pulling on a flat surface you tend to take just dust because it's difficult to flex and apply pressure.

While looking for the earliest mention I found this brief bit that relates:

[A hand scraper] may be pushed or pulled as the grain of the wood requires. It produces a finer shaving when pulled than when pushed.

I don't know where Bahco are coming from with their instructions.

Very odd, they make no sense. Even if the Bahco scrapers were the ultra-stiff type that can't be flexed they'd work perfectly well in push mode.
