I've only jut started to use hide glue and am wondering if anyone can throw light on a problem experienced today. I noticed when veneering that it was taking a long
time to harden. And then, after leaving it in the glue pot to cool, I
noticed it wasn't solidifying even when cold and even when left overnight. Hmmm. It's from the same
batch that I used before (successfully) and I don't think I let it boil
in the pot. The only thing I can think of that's different is that with this lot I
mixed it with water about a week ago and put it in the fridge (as per
some advice on the internet), taking what I need as and when. Previously I'd mixed it and left it overnight only before beginning to heat and use it. I can easily make up some more but I want to try and find out what I've done wrong. Thanks.

If its stayed liquid it sounds like there`s been too much water in it. It should only go to liquid when it`s warm. eggs sucking etc if I`ve misunderstood what you`ve said.
all the best

Thanks Rob I think you are right. I'm new to using hide glue and I think I just made it too liquid/weak. I left it in the glue pot on moderate heat for half a day to evaporate some of the water and after that it started to solidify. At least I know now what I did wrong...
