Help with new old lathe

The motor on my metalworking lathe is hinged in this way , likewise the one on my woodworking lathe - a union jubilee. Whereas, the sheer weight of the old motor is sufficient to keep the belt tensioned on the woodworking lathe - this is not the case for the metalworking one. This has a long threaded rod fixed above the hinged bed that the motor sits on. This in turn passes through a hole in the motor bed and a couple of nuts on the rod, positioned above and below the bed, allow for the motor to be fully tensioned.
