I have come by an old 14” brass back carcass saw. The handle medallion just has the usual “Warranted Superior”. The etching on the blade is almost unreadable except for the one word “SWANSEA” in upper case.

Not much to go on I know but just wondered if anyone has a saw with that word but a readable etching.

BSSM only lists two Swansea firms, P Gregory listed at Cross St in 1899, and G Staniiforth listed at Portland St in 1881 and Waterloo St in 1887.

That means that they were listed in trade directories as saw makers, but it's entirely possible, and likely, that the saws they sold would have been made and marked for them in Sheffield.
