:D must say what a great site this is. I've been 'lurking' for a little while now and have picked up an enormous amount of great advice and tips.

I'm what you would class as an extreme novice at woodworking, but i'm very keen to get some projects under my belt. :?

I'm planning on making a small coffee table of some discription, but I'd like to use some driftwood that I often spot washed up on the beach. Can anyone suggest how I might prepare such timber (i.e. drying out etc) before actually starting to work with it?

Thanks in advance
Mark

Welcome Mark.

Can't advise you on driftwood, but I knew a chap who used to make picture frames with it and he always washed it before using, again I don't know why, didn't think to ask. Salt removal ?

Hi Mark,

A warm welcome to UKW the best place to be :)

Please post something if you go ahead with the 'driftwood' idea. It's not something that comes up too oftem so I'm sure we'll all like to see or hear about it.
