I ended up getting a footswitch for my Hegner but I've found that using it standing is giving me back problems. Being slightly diminutive (OK, short-ar$ed) when I am sat at the correct height, my foot is swinging in fresh air way above the footswitch. So do I sell the table and make another, or do I cut the legs down to get it to the right height for me? Seems a shame to chop it up when someone might want one, and I can easily make another steel one.

Make a box to rest your feet on and put the switch on that.

I thought of lifting the switch but it's not really feasible as the stand legs are in the way. If I wasn't short of space, I'd make another stand and store the original, but I think I will more than likely just cut it down.

Hi Martin.

My Hegner saw is on a Hegner stand/table, I have to sit at the saw as I have (MS), so have a swivel type bar stool which is also height adjustable. (I think the stool came from B&Q, but not sure, obtained a long time ago). So as my feet do not slip off the foot rail, I cut a plywood platform and fitted over the foot rail, very comfortable.

Why not dispense with the foot switch and use a no volt release switch system, I have mine with the stop button just below the table, just need to drop my right hand and touch the stop button.

Just a thought.

Take care.

I also have a disabilty and have to sit at the saw. I have the same sort of stool as Chris and cut for hours at a time. The ideal height is to have the table of the saw level with your elbows. I also have the Hegner foot switch and having adjusted the height of the stool everything is perfect.

Hi Chris,
I already had an NVR switch fitted which I have been using in the months since I bought the saw. I only decided very recently to try the footswitch. Half an hour with it last night cutting some wheel spokes convinced me it is the way to go, being able to stop and start without removing either hand from the work. I lost count of the times I ruined a cut because I couldn't stop in time and now it's so easy. I had convinced myself that the NVR switch was best for me because I like to stand as much as possible but I bought a footswitch anyway thinking it would come in useful, even if I didn't get along with it on the scroll saw. I can safely say I'm a convert. In fact I am that much of a convert I recommend you try it, and it won't break the bank at less than £20 for the footswitch and a couple of plugs. If you don't like it, simply unplug it. And like me, you still have the convenience of the NVR switch, either with or without the footswitch.

Chippygeoff, I also have the same type of adjustable stool, but it doesn't make up for lack of personal height. If I leave the table as it is and sit at a comfortable height, I need a ladder to get on the stool. :D I need to lower the table about 7 or 8". I think I will make the table height adjustable so that I can still use it whilst standing whenever I feel like it.

Martin.

edit: the solution was ridiculously simple. I put the footswitch on the triangular stiffeners of the table, and I'm using my heel to work the switch. Seems comfortable enough so far, though I will probably get vertigo sitting so high up.

Hi Martin.

Not found stopping the saw in a hurry a problem, as the NVR system I have is home built and has a large commercial emergency stop switch, as I said, just below my right hand so not a problem.

Unfortunately I would be a complete liability with a foot switch, as I have to lift my right leg/foot by hand, and the left one doesn’t always behave its self, you could say I have two delinquent feet.

All the best, now its off to try and talk some sense into these delinquent feet, but I don’t think I can convince them to operate a switch, but you have to have a laugh.

Take care.
