Can any one recommend me a hand panel saw?

One to sharpen yourself or hardpoint disposible?

For a sharpenable I'd be looking at an early S&J or a Disston (sp?)

Hardpoint? Normally I'd say Bahco 244 but I'm now leaning towards the S&J Predator range.

Rip cut? Buy an old one and a file.

I started with learning to sharpen with scabby second hand spear and Jackson's a few quid from the car boots, never managed to get my hands on a disston, I like the orange jack points for a disposable one

Could I add a question -

How about for cutting rough old construction timber for firewood, plus the odd bit of hardwood?

Longevity is a top priority

I looked for a long time on Ebay but never found one that was both in good condition and the price was attractive. (Living in Canada, the shipping tends to be very high from the US, or US sellers just flat-out refuse to ship here, and I haven't found any locally.)

In the end I bought a Lie Nielsen rip saw when I was down at their HQ for the weekend. Yes it's expensive but it's a joy to use.
