Not seen the programme but my Dad was telling me about a couple of lads that had made a wooden bike for a challenge. He goes to a model engineering club and the guy gave a talk on making it one evening. Even the chain was made from wood. Sounded incredible.

Just watching the 2nd one with the timber mill. Funny how things suddenly click , he was making some wooden wheels and used a spoke shave to form the spokes. Lol I had never thought about where the name came from until now.

That's the one!

Making a velocipede....

The water turbine and belt driven distribution system are wonderful....and those machines all look like old Wadkin ones.

Pretty darn good program....not sure I could watch the leather tanning though during dinner again!!

Anyone watching "How Britain Worked" with Guy Martin on Channel 4Seven?

Brilliant stuff...a wooden bike!

Jim

Really excellent stuff, although a little too short for me. I'd like to see more of the practical stuff.

Unfortunately, if they tried to make it into longer they'd probably feel that they have to add some sort of game Show element to satisfy the masses!

Also on a (nearly!) related topic, I'm finding "Tales From The Wild Wood" on Beeb4 very interesting.

If you've not seen it, it's about a bloke putting a piece of woodland that hasn't been worked for 50 years back under management and trying to find useful and profitable outlets for the product.
