Hi Chris

Keith Smith and I propose to make an electricity meter cabinet out of oak and MDF to fit in a very small foyer.

The space for the cabinet is very small. It must fit into the following area and allow for the mains electric cable feeding up through the floor:

It will replace the current meter cabinet which has become a repository for junk (keys, letters, dog leads, car radio fronts). In order to prevent such items being deposited in this way, the surface of the new cabinet must be designed so as to stop items being deposited there. However, tidy storage space for these items must be provided. Furthermore, the design must fit in with the nature of the property, a 1950's ex-council house.

A case of curved, laminated oak 6" thick will be formed and joined by two stretchers, the upper stretcher being visible. Two doors will be created with no externally visible catches. A lower door will provide access to the electric meter and an upper, curved door will provide storage. The cabinet doors will be decorated with painted MDF to create a jukebox effect after the fashion of this design:

If possible, coloured acrylic will also be incorporated into the jukebox design.
