We've got the Dyson cordless (v6 I think it is) and it's very good. Just so convenient to have it cordless and to be able to pick it up and take it where you need so easily.

But we also have a Robovac, so we only really need to do a bit of spot cleaning with the Dyson. The battery on the Dyson lasts about 15 minutes at full power, a bit longer off full power, so if you have a large house it might struggle to do it all on one charge

Consider a robot. My sister has one, and after a very suspicious start, she is now happy for it do the whole floor of the house and let it go back into its kennel when finished.

Don't get a robot if you have a dog. If they have an accident the robots are supposed to be very good at smearing it everywhere :)

we have a dyson v6 because the darling better half cant carry the super light weight vax up the stairs (even though she could leave it at the bottom as the hose is long enough to do the entire set) . it's good, only lasts 15 minutes but thats long enough to hover almost our entire carpeted section of the house, great for having kids too, you can hover the sofa after them.

adding a turbo button seems pointless though, you always have it in that mode.

no comment on the ethics of Dyson or the "inventions" of the founder, I don't put him in the same marketing box as Edison at all, honest.

We have a dyson (not sure what model, - animal?) and it's so good we got rid of the mains powered vac.

Never use the turbo and the pick up is great including their hair.

Don't waste your time with the Vax or other cheaper models. Yes the Dyson vacs are almost double the price, but the others just aren't fit for purpose (IMO). I tried a few different cheaper models (Vax, Hoover, MorphyRichards) and decided to just suck it up and pay for the Dyson and I am glad I did.

Having said that, they're still only good for light jobs really. I'd still rather do the weekly big vac with a mains powered one, and do a small daily vac with the Dyson. But this all depends on the household.

I'm not so sure I agree about the light jobs - I even use my custom to clean my shop vac filter :D

I find the Dyson great when all you want to do is hoover an open accessable space, but when you want to start using the attachments to get into corners and under/around things, I find it much easier with the hose of a normal vac.

Don't understand your point.
Edison was a marketing man. Tesla was the genius.

Robbo, it would appear that you understand my comment perfectly. =D>

Edison was a marketing man who sold himself as a genius inventor, Tesla was a genius inventor who sold himself as a fool and sir Dyson is a clever gent who understands big business and much like Edison, has a hand full of inventions to his name and a bigger handful of other peoples inventions to his name, everything else is just clever wording.

can't knock him to much though to be fair, he does his bit as a good citizen of the realm, the dyson foundation does a lot of good work.

I think the 800 people made redundant in Malmesbury when he moved his production to the far east to save money would disagree.

Wouldn't want to dent his 3.5Bn fortune now, would we? He owns more land than the Queen.

No more Dysons in our house.

Plus, he whistles when he speaks.

My daughter at Uni is renting and for some reason, they won't provide a vac. She is the only one with a carpeted room (plus some stair and landing carpet) and its her who has to go borrow one from the renting place - a fair walk. So she's begged us for a vac.

We use a mains Shark - which we (and our cleaner, who tries many manufacturers) think is great, even though its now about £200. But we thought that we'd get something that is different for daughter so when she comes back with it in 9 months (end of third year - big assumption that anything survives in a student house that long, of course) we could use it at home.

However I balked having read the reviews of the rechargeable, and the size and cost of larger mains one still makes it a difficult descision.

We finally bought a bex bissel !!! Remember those?.
Tiny, light enough for daughter to carry back to her flat (she's with us this week) and she said she'd give it a go. Anyway, £15. :) I do hope it does the job. I'm so mean :)

I did ? Seems we are both singing from the same hymn sheet. :)
