Please can anyone tell me where I can buy a new switch for my newly acquired Fobco Star :?: I wish to fit one back in the original position inside the casting so would have to be similar to the original.

It currently has a NVR switch but I would prefer it back to original.

even tony at lathes.co.uk who bought all the spare parts when fobco shut doesn't have of those switches left as far as i'm aware so you've been very lucky to get one at all, let along FOC

Well if you just wanted any rotary switch to do the job they are easy to source
but one that uses the same holes and the same knob is much more difficult to find
That one is off a fobco 7/8ths drill

But I'm more bothered about ease of use / safety than originality

As you say a standard rotary switch to mount externally are available but I was looking for one to fit in its original position for two reasons.

One the machine I have purchased other than the switch is all original including a Fobco stamped drive belt perished & cracked. The other is back in the late seventies I purchased 2 Fobco drills for my engineering factory, 1 floor standing and 1 bench the bench version was a “Long nose” with the No 1 Morse taper.

The bench model was about £70 new incl delivery!!!!! Not sure about the floor one

The long nose version proved to be faulty, had too much play in the quill so Fobco agreed to replace it with a std version and rather than them pay return carriage, agreed to sell the faulty machine to me for about £40 which we used with a fixed jig drill.

I was always very comfortable with the original switch arrangement hence my reason to source an original type also to make the drill “complete”

Regards,

Keith

Ian I know it was a long time ago but you had me in a panic for a moment thought my memory had gone completely #-o Not sure how old that price list is but must be from pre 1971

Did you notice the price of the NVR switch about 10% of the machine cost :?:

I opened the factory in 1979. Would be nice if things were still those prices =P~

Sadly that brochure isnt dated
but by the printers code in the bottom right it may be 1951
I suppose a boxed contactor and overload and buttons may be £60-70 now for a british made one
a british made pillar drill ??? cant imagine much change out of £1000 ish
